How to be recommended
Sample Contact Letter for Letters of Recommendation
Dear Alvin,
First off, thanks for agreeing to write me a strong letter of recommendation for dental school. After five years of exploring careers in college, I have found dentistry is the best fit for me. I look forward to developing into a patient-focused, technically skilled, business savvy dentist with a commitment towards community. After getting some experience in dental school, I will consider attending a graduate program to become a dental specialist.
I am happy to spend as much time to work with you on the letter of recommendation as you would like. Attached are some documents to provide you with some more background on myself including:
- Ideas for Letter Content – The point of this sheet is to make writing the letter as easy as possible you. This sheet lists traits that dental schools are looking for in students. Under each trait is a list of examples of ways that I exhibit that trait. Feel free to not use the information on this sheet if you have some ideas you would like to expand on.
- Key Achievements – Like a resume. List the relevant information that one might put on a resume.
- Transcripts – Classes and grades from my UW coursework.
The Center for Career Services is collecting my letters of recommendation. They will send off copies of my letters of recommendation to dental schools as needed. I can deliver to you an envelope and form with which to send the finished letter of recommendation to the Center of Career Services.
Thanks again for helping. Please contact me if you have any questions. If you want me to come in chat with you after you have looked over this packet, I would be happy to do that too. I am hoping to have all of my letters of recommendation sent in to the Center for Career Services by late June.
