People are power

The importance of individual people to the dentistry profession is undeniable. Most dentists operate their own offices by themselves. They are generally hard-working and self-motivated. The dental profession is greatly populated by individualistic folks who can keep their stuff together.

This very independence can cause the profession problems though, because they do not have adequate representation in front of the legislators. Each dentist approaches his dental clinic as an independent business that does not need assistance from anyone. This is a faulty way of thinking, because big insurance companies and other groups are constantly pressuring for more regulation against dental groups to lower costs.

Democrats and Republican senators and representatives both need to be made aware of the needs of the dental profession. In order to take a better control over the situation, everyone inside the dentistry trade should work together to create powerful groups of lobbyists to get legislation passed that they need.
