Describe your idea for a start-up company

Multimedia marketing company targeting medical clinics in Memphis, Tennessee.  Because of Memphis’s geographic location, patients from Montana, Idaho, Eastern Oregon and Northern Nevada travel to Memphis for complicated treatments.  This creates a large medical market, which is also the largest industry in Memphis.  Many of the brilliant oncologists, radiation oncologists and neurosurgeons at these clinics in Memphis want to create fun, witty and playful multimedia marketing materials, which would contrast the stuffy, conservative nature of the marketing employed by the hospitals.  Logos, letterheads, t-shirts and other kitsch is needed to brand the clinics.  Brochures, websites and videos are needed to introduce the patients to their doctors, answer patient questions and provide information to the referring doctors.  Business could increase rapidly through referrals in the close-knit town and inquiries by other doctors into the “new and fun” marketing materials they see our client doctors employing.

 

Explain why you believe a scholarship to Entrepreneur University 2007 would help you achieve your entrepreneurial goals.  What do you hope EU can provide for you? Please be specific.

First of all, I receive little or no entrepreneurial training at the UW business school.  I wish learn more about the process of creating a start up. i.e. what are the steps, where do I find people willing to help me along the way, and what should I be wary of?  A conference that brings together entrepreneurs from the area will provide an opportunity for me to find answers to my questions and further build my network, especially with people who share my common entrepreneurial interests.

Second, I desire to create the marketing business I referred to above.  I have already gathered together peers in video production, computer science, graphic design and business majors.  With me as the point man, we pitched and gained a contract this summer to do the logo, letterhead, kitsch brochures, website and videos for a multimillion dollar medical clinic.  Currently, we are contract workers.  I want to know the best methods for creating an actual business.  What kind of business should I form?  When should I form this business?  What resources are out there to help?  Where/when do I need to use lawyers and accountants?  The Entrepreneur University will give me the opportunity to meet people who can aid me in my enterprise and, hopefully, I can help them out as well.

Lastly, I am also interested in commercial real estate as a career.  I attend commercial real estate classes in the construction management school, which has provided me with an understanding of the field and the theory.  I would hope I could meet some professionals at the conference who work in commercial real estate and that would be willing to meet with me.  I want to discuss the possible paths I can take to be a successful entrepreneur in commercial real estate.
