Questions about Machame

Rick Politician
Mt. Kilimanjaro
Pgs 1-79 paragraph

The Machame people seem to strive for health, happiness and self-sufficiency.  Some of the people, such as the traditionalists, believe that the older practices and customs are the path to these things they strive for since these traditions have worked for previous generations and created the moral and peaceful villages they live in today.  On the other hand, other more modern thinkers believe that the knowledge from schooling will provide their children with many opportunities and financial advantages.
School in itself is a wealth of knowledge; yet, it can also lead to a wealth of possessions and health.  A youth who graduates from secondary school can acquire a salaried job in the city and earn money, which can be used to buy possessions that protect an individual’s health like a home, sanitation or suitable clothing.  The Tanzanian schools also teach the children about what people need to stay healthy like the correct diet and avoidance of STD’s and other diseases.
Having an education also allows youths from Ndala village to move to the city and find jobs.  There, they are immersed in a wealth of people which provide diversity, new point of views and a hundred different things to do.
Even with all these things that schooling offers youths, I can see how it definitely would not appeal all youths.  As I stated before, the Machame seem to seek happiness self sufficiency.  For many youths, especially men, they can achieve these following the same lines of their parents by running a banana farm.  The traditional female role, on the other hand, subjugates women to taking care of the home and family.  This female role offers little opportunity for women to find individual happiness.
